Horsemen's win opens up title chase
Birdseye Sports Evesham and District Sunday League
THE race for the Division One title took a twist at the weekend when champions Ambassador moved into pole position following victory over Broadway United thanks to goals from Heath, Johns and Sutton.
Nearest rivals Bretforton Old Boys were defeated by the Red Horse who led at the interval through Twine and Staley before Jones pulled a goal back for the Old Boys. Beattie sealed the win with a 30-yard chip.
Peopleton remain in trouble following a narrow defeat at Bear despite Lawson scoring a double. The winners netted through Morgan, Smith and Gibbons.
A double from Watts helped Tewkesbury Town overcome Cider Mill and preserve their second division status for another season.
Crowle moved within touching distance of promotion at struggling Bredon where the visitors scored through Burrows, Hatchett, Macdonald and Gwillam.
Oddfellows Arms reached the Evesham Mechanical Services Subsidiary Cup Final after victory at Alderton where Reading and Carter scored for the Oddies, and Kinder replied for the home side.
Oddfellows will meet Offenham Rovers in the final.
Pinvin United moved a step nearer promotion from Division Three after defeating basement team Bengeworth Sports who were level 2-2 at half-time. Bellamy and Shepherd both scored twice in a 6-2 success.
Pinvin's only rivals for promotion are Honeybourne Gate Inn who won at Defford and Besford with Ballard and Rainey scoring a brace apiece.
