A PENSIONER was inj-ured in a road rage attack after driving slowly thr-ough a Worcestershire village, a jury heard.

Retired Robert Edwards made a hand signal to slow down when pharmacist Frederick Meadows over-took him. But Meadows thought it was a rude gesture, screeched to a halt in his Rover and knocked Mr Edwards to the ground in front of his wife.

The victim, now aged 70, who lives in Lower Westmancote, near Bred-on, had been through three hip operations and was on his way home after cel-ebrating his 42nd wedding anniversary.

He suffered a gash where his head struck the road, lost consciousness and suffered other injuries.

Meadows, aged 56, of Beckford Road, Alderton, near Tewkesbury, was convicted by a jury of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Judge David McEvoy warned him he was considering a jail term, but adjourned the case until the week starting April 4 for a pre-sentence report.

Worcester Crown Court heard that the incident happened on June 5 last year at Kemerton.

Mr Edwards was driving at 25mph - but Meadows became impatient and overtook, said Joanne Barker, prosecuting.

The defendant claimed the pensioner forced his car wheels to go on to a verge and that he got between him and his daughter. But a jogger who saw the attack admonished the defendant for being "a dangerous driver" and said he should be banned.
