Horsemen rue misses as Old Boys land a double
BRETFORTON Old Boys completed a Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League league and cup double with victory over Red Horse in Sunday's Knockout Cup final at Broadway United.
The Old Boys started the stronger and took the lead midway through the first half with a Will Gayton header.
Red Horse struck back to level with a Matty Staley header and then proceeded to dominate the second half but poor finishing was to prove costly as the game moved into extra-time.
The Old Boys then took control and goals from Paul Jones and Jamie Cla-rke saw the league champions lift the trophy for a third successive season.
Later the same day at Littleton, Division Two sides Oddfellows Arms and Offenham Rovers contested the Evesham Mechanical Services Subsidiary Cup final.
Rovers took an early lead following an error from the Oddfellows keeper who dropped the ball into his own net but they were then made to pay for several missed chances before Dipple levelled.
Reading put the Oddies in front 15 minutes from time only for Ireland to equalise but two goals in five minutes from Reading and Sears clinched the cup for Oddfellows despite a last minute Hartwell reply.
Mickleton Rangers celebrated promotion from the second division after victory over champions Crowle thanks to a second half strike from Robinson.
Pinvin United ended their successful Division Three campaign with a 5-2 home win over Eckington with Roebury (2), Shepherd, Bellamy and Bulford on target for the winners.
